Autumn 2026 lecture season
Block 1: Iconic houses and museums of 20th-century villa architecture around the world
- “The house as museum: international examples of interpreting modern architecture” Müller Villa, Villa Tugendhat, Villa Savoye, Eames House, Schindler House, Aalto House, Barragán House. Focus on different curatorial approaches, operating models, and audience engagement.
- “How an iconic house comes to be: stories of architects and residents” Focused on the personal stories that turn a house into a cultural symbol.
The lecture concept draws inspiration from the Iconic Houses network, which has long mapped similar house-museums around the world.
Block 2: The idea of Mini Arch Museum in Vila Měšťan
- “Mini Arch Museum: why it exists and what role it should play” An explanation of the mission, values, planned activities, and collection-building and research ambitions.
Block 3: Heritage restoration of 20th-century villa architecture
- “How 20th-century villas are restored: materials, technology, limits” Concrete, steel, glass, specific surfaces, technical installations.
- “Authenticity and interpretation: how to decide when restoring modern architecture” Dilemmas between reconstruction, conservation, and adaptation.
Block 4: Garden cities of Europe
- “European garden cities: ideal, reality, and current challenges” Hampstead Garden Suburb, Hellerau, Sídliště Baba, Södra Ängby.
- “Garden cities in the Czech context” The context of Vila Měšťan and its surroundings.
Schedule
- September 2026 – introduction of the series, registration opens.
- October–December 2026 – 6–8 lectures, once every two weeks, Thursday or Tuesday evenings.
- December 2026 – closing evening with a discussion on the future of Mini Arch Museum.
